Why I support piracy

I, Billco, am a strong supporter of piracy; I think it’s a great thing.  I say this, despite being a software developer, amateur musician and huge music/movie buff.  It doesn’t make any sense, right ?

So apparently release-weekend ticket sales for Pirates of the Caribbean 3 are about 15% lower than last year’s number for Pirates 2. Geez… I dunno, maybe it’s because the prices keep going up for nothing. Or maybe 15% of the people got turned off by #2 and aren’t rushing out to see this one. Or maybe a large chunk of people are seriously pissed off at the film industry for churning out several metric tonnes of mindless tripe

This is how we deal with censorship on the internet. I think the MPAA’s “engineers” purposely designed this weak 128-bit encryption key to make it easily crackable, so they can spend more time in court suing every person on earth and lobby the government for an even dumber law than the DMCA to “protect” them.

Digg is digging its own grave

The colorful pile of user-submitted shit, better known as Digg, issued a little PR message regarding the recent censorship of HD-DVD decryption techniques. Nevermind the fact that these articles got upwards of 15 thousand votes or “diggs”, and were by far the most popular topics of the past week.

DVD ripping is legal ? not quite yet.

Kaleidescape, makers of ultra-high-end media center equipment, have won a court ruling vs the DVD CCA (copy control association), which alleged that the defendant’s product was illegally circumventing DVD copy protection. For you lazy tards, the Kaleidescape system is like a video iPod on steroids.
